Hmmm. I like the sound of this: the vinegar will soften the brittle rubber, Kenyon, yes?

When the rubber has softened, I was thinking I would rinse it then rub something on it to seal the new softness. I remember a  past post from a Navy man who talked about sealing/protecting rubber seals with vaseline on ships.

Does this make sense to anyone else?
