Some exhaust manifolds use no gaskets at the heads at all and most are 
tightened down barely more than spark plugs! The moral here is to allow the 
original engineering do the work, not excessive torque!

forward at rest with the brake, and there is harsh driveline vibration >>

The universal joints are the first thing to check, any play means that they 
should be replaced.
