I swung by the trucking company that has 'my' 58 Imperial this morning.
While I was mainly visiting to discuss something else, I obviously had to
ask about the car's situation. I was told, with some pride on their part,
that both the engine and the transmission had been jobbed out to some
companies that do a lot of work for the trucking line and that the
specialists were working on them for free. I just love the idea of this
infectious madness, even if one could be churlish and suppose that these
secondary companies are merely keeping a major client happy. The end
result's the same, and the truck company is very happy about the situation,
as am I. Certain ideas seem to take on a life of their own and this old
Imperial is one whose time has come.
Therefore I may dare to hope that the car will get painted in like fashion
and, lordy, is they want to have a go at the interior I won't complain
either, though the latter is going to be a huge stretch for the normal stuff
that might be done to a truck on a regular basis.
