When you get the shift assembly for the '63, on the outside of the dash is a metal cover that provides a slot that the Park lever slides up and down within.  You should get that too, to cover the unfinished portion of the lever.  I imagine you could screw this right to a '62 dash, but I am not 100% sure.  Just finished taking my '63 apart for restore and thought I should mention this.

The '62 Imperial has a brake on the rear of the transmission and the '63
Imperial uses the rear axle brake.

How much work is needed to install the newer unit in the '62 ???  And yes I
do understand the '63 rear axle and trans must be used.  How about the '63
shift unit on the dash with the park lever on the side ???
