And you never will.  The "oil related" problems will happen very long term as
they affect the ware rate of the engine, a very slow process.  Even then, you
will never know if the engine would have lasted longer with the "superior" oil,
as the engine wear is affected by a huge number of other factors.  However, you
may want to take advantage of the results of the research where these factors
are controlled, and the results tell us that the modern oils are superiors over
the ones from the 40's.  Both for fuel economy and wear.
