I will try that. I know it's a big safety no-no, but I usually use
compressed air and a tapping hammer to free them up.

Yes. You need some silicone "rubber" grease that is rated for use on
brake rubbers. Grab it at NAPA or Car quest or whatever. smear your
seals and the cylinders with it, and they should just slide in. I have
had the problem several times. What's even more fun though is getting
them out when they are all stuck. I used a brake master cylinder from
some old british car that I got from a friend. I hooked up the line to
the caliper, and kept pouring in vegitable oil and pumping untill they
popped. This was after boiling them all day on the kitchen stove in a
big pot of water and viniger.
