Let's see...with the clock running 24/7/365, but with the car being
driven, regularly/weekly, in CA... a Delco Freedom-type battery, that I
installed, in 1987 lasted for 21 years, before it was replaced with
another Delco (which flat-top is hidden by a "Battery Topper"
toupee), and which plain side is adorned with a MoPar battery
vinyl applique.
If a car were to be dead stored, for months, its battery would be
disconnected, anyway.
The clock doesn't appear to have any serious affect on a car with a
well-operating electrical system....but, the clock keeps on ticking-away,
so, an on/off switch should preserve its operational life indefinitely.

There is also speculation that the clock will run the battery down
quickly.
After having the clock rebuilt on my 58 Plymouth, I installed a small
roll switch like the kind you find on a lamp cord, on the wire leading
up to the clock. When I show the car, I reach under the dash and turn
the switch.Clock was rebuilt about 20 years ago. Still works great. No
quartz conversion for me. Tick tick tick...
