If I remember correctly, there is someone on this mailing list who runs a 58
Plymouth with a 440/727 combo and still uses the pushbutton auto (ground off
the detents?). If that person doesn't mind all the typing, I would be
greatly interested in a rundown on what all was involved in doing the swap
(I currently have a 318/torqueflite).
Here's some questions I have so far:
1:Engine mounts:What do I need
2:What about mounting the transmission? What about driveshaft lenght?
3:Power Steering-Can you use the existing pump/box?
4:Exhaust-which manifolds did you use, or are there headers that fit?
5-What did you do to maintain the pushbutton shift?
Was the stock cooling system up to snuff?
Any suspension mods? Brakes?
Does the stock rear end hold up?
Electrical-did you convert to an alternator?
Parking brake-what did you do about this?
Although I am sticking with the 318, I have heard "you gotta drop a 440 into
this" more than enough to get me thinking. It would be kinda nice to have a
sleeper..
Some insight from somone who has done this swap would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Todd
