I had play in my control arms to shaft connection and in my kingpins and all
the seals are shot, so I'm just replacing everything while I have it apart.

I don't completely understand how it works. On a newer car, isnt the control
arm bushing pressed into the control arm and mounted in rubber and when the
rubber is shot, that causes the play.

I have play in the control arm, but since the metal busing threads into the
control arm and the shaft threads into the bushing, is there some standard
play that will be there and the seal keeps grease in which emilinates the
play ?

So when the grease seal is shot, all the grease comes out and leave the
bushing and shatf metal to metal and able to clunk around some ?

does this make any sense or is my thinking screwed up ?

be in the Plymouth club bulletin that's dedicated to the 56 Plymouth

Nick,

All of my bushings were just fine. It was the rubber seals that were bad.
(What a difference after replacing them.)

As for cleaning the parts. I used engine degreaser to get all the caked
stuff
off. I then used a wire brush and denatured alcohol for the final clean. The
denatured alcohol allows you to paint immediately.
