Re: [FWDLK] engine rebuild

Ray,

A couple of years ago, I would have told you to find
them on Ebay, but that it seems is a thing of the
past.

I pieced together an engine rebuild for my 330.4 '56
DeSoto Hemi using parts I got off of Ebay.

Since that time, it seems everyone has caught on and
the prices are being driven sky-high.

You could check with Egge, but I feel it will be just
as expensive, if not more.

There is a new book out on rebuilding old Hemis that
lists a number of parts sources, although many are for
performance mods.

The fact is, the demand is just not there right now
for the parts manufacturers to make enough parts to
justify a lower profit per item or multiple
manufacturers to compete for your dollars.

Look at this way, even a Firedome Sedan cost $2678 new
and it was the cheapest one available in the lineup,
so the money will be well spent!

On another note, I have found that NAPA can get most
of the parts to rebuild these engines. Find yourself
a gasket set for around $50.00 and it will go a long
way towards reducing costs.

Have fun, it will be worth it in the end.

Leslie Howard
