Re: [FWDLK] Oil filter conversion was RE: [FWDLK] Oil Filter Interchange?

Hi Andy -

I did the conversion on my 58 Ply (using the Fram K21 kit) from a shunt-type
(canister with large bolt running thru it) to a modern PH8A. Went very
smoothly. Takes 30 minutes. Now I can remove the filter from the top,
although it's still a tight squeeze. Also, PH8A filters are common. Not
the case with CH36APL, which is the filter that the canister requires.

It's very difficult to change that upside down canister without having the
car on a lift. The first time I tried, I dumped six quarts of oil on my
driveway, as the canister wasn't exactly seated correctly. Yes, six
quarts.

> Is there any reason not to do the conversion?

If your car is a show car, you may lose some points, due to lack of
originality. I'll take that chance.

Ron
