| Interestingly, the DeSoto's white goes gray as the film
progresses. Perhaps
| the taint in color indicates the increasingly doubtful
virtue of Ferguson's
| investigation, and the progress of his emotional
destruction. It bears
| noting that working titles for the film refer to
darkening.

| Ferguson's DeSoto literally carries the "Vertigo" plot to
its dramatic
| conclusion, adding to the already considerable screen-time
the car enjoys.
