Re: [FWDLK] Casting #'s for a 354 Hemi reference Ebay item #1840218935

If they are indeed truck heads than you do not want them. Truck heads do
not breath any different in that the ports and valve heads are the same but
they are different in 3 key ways. All of which need major fabrication or
machine work to overcome.
1. They have no coolant crossover provisions on the front of the heads.
2. Instead they had a coolant crossover passage in the center of the heads
where the exhaust crossover is located on the car heads. This passage is
taller and a car intake will not seal without modification.
3. They had sodium filled valves with fatter stems so regular auto valves
cannot be used without replacing the guides and the fatter valve stems will
restrict flow some as well as add weight to the valvetrain.

You are better off buying a set of car heads. To verify you can ask to see
photos of the heads from all angles. If there are no water crossover ports
on the fronts and the exhaust crossover is tall & skinny rather than more
square in shape than they are indeed truck heads. From the angle he chose
to show them it looks to me like he is trying to hide the fact that they
are truck heads and listing the casting number to cover his @$$. If the
person doesn't take the time to check the number than caveat emptor!

According to the Hollander Interchange manual, 1733463 cast
number is a Dodge Truck 57-59 700,800 & 900 series. The Mopar
part number is 1733461. These Dodge trucks had 354 engine but
"breathing" is perhaps different..
The correct cast number of '56 354 Hemi passenger car = NY and
Imperial (except 300, i haven't the cast number) is 1733843 but
same cast number also for 57-58 Chrysler Windsor / saratoga.
Strange, because these heads are polyshperic !
