I have also found at the same location that Glenn explains below the engine
number from my '58 Belvedere (LP8 - ******), although it was well hidden
under the various coats of paint, grime and tar. I actually never saw it
until I started to get almost to the frame's metal.

I can't give the full report either, but on my 57 Fury the number was
stamped on
the top of the frame rail (facing the body), on the drivers side, in about
the
position where the front door meets the rear quarter.
The number is the same as the engine number FP31-******
