Re: [FWDLK] Fw: Possible Scam ?

It is all pretty scary today. I sold 3 motorcycles on e-bay this year. One
the guy paid cash and took the bike with him - I was afraid to take it being
concerned about counterfeit bills, the other was a personal check, I
shipped after the check cleared, the third guy showed up in person with a
certified check, I was afraid to take that also, I called his bank to verify
but he provided the telephone # so I was still not convinced. I had his
contact info and had called him him on the phone prior to the sale and then
copied his license and milatary ID just in case and let him take the bike.
All worked out ok but you never know.
I am concerned about wire transfers because I dont want to give anyone my
account info. Now I am not an overly paranoid person but I am beginning the
think that PAY-PAL is about the safest way of conducting business.

I would bet that it is. Beware of "free email" providers like pilemail --
there's no way to trace the sender. And I bet the payment would be by
certified check. Fake certified checks are all the rage these days...
complete with watermarks, magnetic ink, the whole shebang. Your bank WILL
cash it, but when it bounces a week (or several weeks) later, you WILL owe
the bank the money back. That's why they always insist on hurrying the
transaction. If you really want to sell it, I might insist on a Western
Union wire payment -- he'd wire you cash.

Another twist is they send you a check for much more than you ask, and ask
you to send a refund (often times it's stated as "a friend owes me money so
I'll have him send the check right to you"). Then when that check bounces,
you not only have lost 1) the money, 2) the car, but also 3) the 'extra'
amount you sent him. You'd in reality be paying him to steal your car.

Outblaze.net is also a free email company, and
firstshippingcompany@xxxxxxxxxxxx shows no results on Google. I would
beware. There are MANY scams like this going on right now:

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Recently I sold my '70 GTX locally but I had it advertised on one or two different websites. I received this email yesterday. He knows nothing about the car apart from one pic on the website. Maybe I'm wrong, but this possibly looks like a scam to me.....just a heads up if you're selling a car. Owen
