Either it wasn't bringing enough money, or someone else bought it in person
for a higher price than it was bid to.

Rest assured the auction cost him $40 to list it and $40 more when someone
bid (or it was bid over the reserve, if it had one) - $80 is a lot to blow
on a whim.
