      I thought the shelf also would be a great place for the old stuff.  Probably the garage shelf as I really don't think my wife would want that kinda stuff gracing her living room.  Actually some of it is in clear bottles and it looks like the Pennsylvania crude oil I pump out of my oil well here.

I vote for the shelf.
 
Long ago, at Chrysler, I got to see a very old (Even then) chemical analysis of several motor oil and fuel additives from the 20's and 30's.  There were some mighty strange ingredients in them.  The only ingredient that I remember for sure was put in a product from a company in Florida....  ORANGE JUICE!  I got the idea that some products were made up out of whatever was plentiful and nearby, since it was a more "Buyer beware" world.
 
I ASSUME (there I go again) that more modern products are more reliable, since we have more liability laws than there were then.
