Hi all!

I have a 58 DeSoto and I need to get a drum puller to access the rear
brakes. I understand the puller for Mopars is different than the GM puller
(surprise, surprise). My question is: Does anyone have a part number,
manufacturer, or source so I can find the right tool the first time (I hate
trial and error)? Do you know the approximate cost?

Happy holidays to all!

Here is a link to one that is similiar. This will pull them but its still a
job, search for old threads as there has been some excellent advice. Might
be easier to find calling it a hub puller rather than a drum puller. You
want this style that uses as a hammer to turn the shaft, anything else is
not likely to be strong enough. These are about $135, special order,
renting may be preferable. http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdspec21.html

Hi all--
I've just been lurking 'till now but this is a question I can help with
(most of you know much more than I).
I met Les Fairbanks at a DeSoto Club meeting, and he sells a custom
made drum puller. 616.463.5260, lessue@xxxxxxxxxxx, 4965 Park Dr.,
Watervliet, MI 49098. I didn't buy one (they were about $100?), because I
still use the big hammer and acetylene torch method. Some of the hubs on
late 50's cars are rusted on too well for even a real big hammer, and the
drum puller is a good idea. If you just want to work on brakes, you can
usually remove the drum from the hub with a hammer, pounding on one side
while pulling one the other. Too little a whack, and you get nowhere; too
big a whack and you can crack the drum. Let me know how you make out.

I live in Kutztown, PA, and have a '59 Firesweep 4 dr, '52 Plymouth
convertible, '68 Fury convertible, and '57 retractable, all drivers in
varying stages of restoration. Dave, your intrepid listmanager, put the
"Dr." in front of my name--I'm not a "real" doctor, just the chemist kind.
Quit a good job at my dad's garage and went to grad school, but still
remember which end of the hammer to pick up.

That is the one. My wife bought me one through the local parts house for
Christmas some years ago. Might try local to eliminate the massive
shipping
cost which will be associated. They weigh a ton!!

His work great, are $100, shipping included, I believe. Also, Jc Whitney
sells them, but get the HEAVY DUTY ONE ONLY.

If there is an AutoZone near by, you can rent a FRONT AXLE puller from them
for the paltry sum of $25.00. The kick is, you can rent this puller
indefinitely. You break it, take it back and exchange it for another. You
want a new one, take it back. It's about the silliest rental program I have
ever seen, but hey, works for me!

And, if you don't have an AutoZone in your area, let me know and I will
lend
you mine. Just be sure and return it as things with my Belvy have finally
started moving and I am going to need it again here in a couple months.

Hope to have helped some,

Subject: 56 Belvedere Convertible project for sale

After spending five years not doing anything with our 56 Plymouth
convertible, I think it's time to let it go. The car is rough, it sat
in the desert for a couple decades. I have a couple pictures up on my
web page:

http://www.mindspring.com/~jforbes2/56plym/index.html

I don't have a firm price in mind yet, I realize that it's not easy to
figure out a reasonable value for a car like this, which is desireable,
but needing a lot of work. I'd like to offer it to the folks on the
list first, though.

The car is in Sierra Vista, AZ, which is about 75 miles southeast of
Tucson.

I have a solid but incomplete 4 door parts car also, which should help
with the restoration, if you live close enough to make it worth hauling.

The convertible has a clear AZ title in my name.

Doc Ed; yer the nuclear chemist , I was looking-for, last week!!

Seriously, sorta, on 6/15/07, when we get to see Virgil, after he's
unearthed, in Tulsa, is there any practical way to "gather/sample" his
NOS Factory-new-car-smell, & provide it to any
"lab" so that they might mass-spectrometerize
it, or whatever, so that that DeLovely(?) odor might be reproduced, as
either an "air Freshener", or for the harder-corer of us, a cologne?

Eaux de EXNER,

Neil Vedder

OK people, someone out there in Forward Look land has to have an extra passenger side lower rear quarter lower piece of stainless. I can't believe that I don't have the piece in the garage. It's not there. I'm about to start the paint on my Belvedere convertible and I can't find that piece of stainless. Please do me a favor when you get a chance go out into the garage and take a look. I know there is an extra piece out there somewhere. BEG, BEG, BEG.....GROVEL, GROVEL, GROVEL.... John Paxos
