Neil, I agree with you as far as the trailer queens and the modern day paints and chemicals that we have available to us today.But you have to admit that the 50s undercoating left a lot to be desired and on the interior of the car did more damage, where condensation was more of a factor, than road salt. In the late 50s and early 60s you could pick up a pretty decent 55 to 58 MOPAR off the back row or next row up for between 50 to a 100 bucks. Only problem being they were rusty. Usualy as bad as ford or worse. My guess is that if they had, like you said a better primer or a better adhearing undercoating there probably wouldnt have been a problem. And with that factor figured in, there may have been more of them around today. They sure did run good.                My 2 cents worth         FAIRLANG 57 Dodge HEMI.
