To measure the gear ratio on an open differential, leave one tire on the ground and rotate the other. Only you probably should rotate the tire 10 times to get more accuracy. Afterward, multiply the ratio by two to account for the fact that only one tire is spinning. On a sure grip rear, with both tires spinning in the air, you do not need to multiply by two.

        I am having trouble figuring out what gear ratio I have in my car. I tried turning my tire 360 deg. To which we counted the rotation of the yoke on the pinion.
