I agree with Dave. Sounds like the sock (filter) that fits over the end of
the tube inside the tank was clogged.  Unfortunately, it looks like you'll
have to pull the tank and inspect the inside to see if the coating is coming
off, or if you have some dirt or foreign substance in the tank.
