As did
Plymouth in the early 50s where the button was on the floor.

Is that true???  I don't think so.  My 33 plymouth has the starter pedal above the gas pedal but in '39 Chrysler introduced the push button on the dash. Later models of course used keys and buttons but I just can't remember a 50's plymouth having it on the floor.
