Re: [FWDLK] rocker panels

Being a fabricator/welder by trade ( journeyman ) , I would be cautious
about the gauge of Steel used. I would not rule out going to a proper sheet
metal shop where they can cut & fold the Rocker panel properly. Some time
last year I welded up a 59 Pontiac , this came with a pair of aftermarket
Rocker panels that were the ready to weld type !. The Steel was like Tissue
paper , & needed some re-work on the profile / length of the rocker. The
other bonus with having them made properly is the type of steel. I am making
up some repair sections for my Imperial & have used a type of Steel called
Zintec, it is rust resilient due to the Zinc coating but still weldable.
Avoid Sheet Steel that has been Galvanised as the fumes are poisonous etc.
Zintec Steel is all so malleable so it is easy to shape & form plus welds
nice with a mig welder.
Dave.
