New york does not have titles on cars before 1972,but they do have transferable registrations.

 = Seems  like I recall some private companies [in the south?] that would get you a registration or title from jmust a bill of sale that you could then transfer in your home state.  Anyone know what I'm talking about, because I sure don't.

Alabama doesnt title old vehicles.  There are many dealers there who will basically sell you your car and send you all the paperwork and a tag from Alabama.  You then take that paperwork to your DMV and register the vehicle and get a title.  Works well for cars where the title has been lost eons ago.  I have done this twice and it worked perfectly both times.
