Hi Ron,
The lower hole is for the brake light switch. I removed my original master
from my 60 Chrysler when I did the brake conversion and the switch is in the
bottom. The wires are very very brittle so be careful when you remove them.
I had to splice in new connectors when I changed the switch several years
ago.

On the master cylinder there are two outlet holes, one for the hydraulic
brake light switch and one for the line. Which hole is correct for the
switch ?  I've seen it both ways, and would think the lower would be more
appropriate, since it keeps the wires out of the way...
