Teflon tape on the bleeder screws is recommended on several cylinders
and clipers I have purchased. However, I have never seen it recommended
on the flare fittings.

NEVER, EVER use teflon tape or any other sealer on flare fittings. Clean
that junk out of there and your problem is likely to dissappear. The
threads
are not what does the sealing, so there is no need for anything to be on
them.
