Re: [FWDLK] 61 Plodge

Thank you to all who answered my 61 Plodge Story question. I did not
recall seeing the story here before and if I did it did not catch my eye.
Seeing this "thing" in photos in MCG got my attention. I forwarded some of
the info I got to MCG. I feel bad that they (along with Hemmings)got
burnt. Being up front that the car was someones creation would be more
honest. But if the car is passed on the dumped in a field like reported in
the story, who knows the history at that point. Enough said. Thanks again
for all you help.

On American 1955 Plymouths, the change to the 259 (260) block came at engine
number P27-60201.

For Canadian 1955 Plymouths it was at P27-1489C (S/N 96,911,388) and Dodges
at D59-1499C (S/N 98,909,898).

For American 1956 Plymouths., engine numbers for the 277-cid engine :
P29-1001 to P29-40000
P29-80001 to P29-250000
P29-274001 to P28-329132

The American 1956 Plymouth 270-cid engine :
P29-40001 to P29-80000
P29-250001 to P29-274000

The American 1956 Fury 303-cid engine :
FP29-1001 & up

For Canadian 1956 Plymouths and Dodges, the 270-cid engine started at
P29-1001C and D61-1001C

The change to the 277-cid engine came at :
P29-6000C and D61-6000C
Starting in 1956, Canadian Plymouth and Dodge engines were numbered
consecutively, with the make prefix added as needed.

Did anyone let the magazine people know about the real history of the car?

I wonder where PaulG gets his 'facts'. I guess if he can fabricate cars, he
can also fabricate myths.

This beast was discussed about a year ago, and the prevailing feeling was
that it was a Frankenstein?s monster created by a guy in Michigan who was
either dishonest or just had a wild sense of humor. You can find pictures
of it on www.lambdacarclub.com then clicking on ?Gallery? then ?Member? and
scrolling down until you see ?Paul G?s? car. That?s it.

I think that I now know much more than I need to or can remember. =
Thanks for all the answers. I'm pretty sure that I have a 259 (260) cid =
1955 Plymouth V8.

Another question. On my trips to Denver to visit my daughter (and =
GRANDSON!) I pass by a 1955 Dodge two-door hardtop (Sport Coupe). It is =
parked at an address on 74th street in Arvada. Does anyone from the =
list own this beautiful car? It looks in excellent condition, with =
Factory Wires! I noticed that last year, for a period of a few months, =
it was replaced by a later model (mid 60's) Plymouth, under a tarp, then =
the Dodge returned. I sure would like to talk to the owner, maybe get =
him to let me sit in it???

Just stop there!
Bring photos of your 55 Belvie, if you can't drive it there. I'd bet=20
he'd enjoy seeing the photos and would take your photo sitting in it so=20=

you could share the "Rest of the Story" with us.

All he can say is NO! Bet he won't!

Thanks, Jim, for finally putting up a link that I could use. I was =

Subject: Carpet Problems

Hey Everyone -

Finally had a chance today to measure out the carpet that I bought from Auto
Custom Carpets (actually one of their affiliates). I chose them based on
positive feedback from the list. The results were disappointing. Carpet is
about 6 or 8 inches too wide. But worse, it doesn't seem to be correct for
my 58 Plymouth: there is a 2' long horizontal opening in the center heading
off to the right of the front piece. Anyone know what that is for ? The heel
pad is totally wrong and seems to be too far down to be of any good. Rear
piece is also too wide. Is the carpet supposed to go under the rear seat ?
No installation instructions provided. Grrrrrrr !

If anyone else on the list has dealt with them, have they had similar
problems ? Any suggestions ? I plan on calling the company tomorrow (their
tech support people only work until 2pm !). Box did say 58 Plymouth 2dr HT
on it.

Ron

Subject: Carpet Problems

Hi Ron,

I have no idea what the opening is in your carpet - sounds strange, a defect
maybe? It is normal that the carpet sections are wider than the original -
it does have to be trimmed to fit. As far as heel pad, yes, it is not quite
as the original, it's a generic pad. Only Legendary carpets have the right
heel pad, as far as I know.

Installation instructions? Get out the razor blade / carpet knife and go.
Start with the rear piece. Center it well. Trim it out as required. Make
damn sure you press down hard in the footwell areas / sill areas before
doing the final trimming. Then repeat with front carpet. Not only do you
need to center it well, you also need to deal with the forward edge of it
being as far forward as possible, and trimmed out as required, before
worrying about the rest.

Most important "trick" is to press down hard in the footwell areas and make
sure carpet conforms to floor pan, before making final cuts at left and
right sides. If not, the first time someone puts their feet down, the carpet
will be pulled out from under the sill plates / kick plates. I use a
rubber mallet and beat the crap out of the the carpet where it needs to
"bend" more. I also leave a couple extra inches at the side edges, and only
make the final cut after I am SURE it's right.

As with everything else, take your time. Always work from the center, out.

Just installed an ACC made carpet in my '61 Newport. Had no problems. Just
took a few hours.

Thanks John. Sounds like you've been down this road a few times.

The 24" narrow hole is probably not a defect, since it's bound. Given that
the edges are bound, I figured that it would be a perfect fit. Otherwise, if
you cut it, you are loosing the advantage of the binding. Methinks that they
sent an incorrect piece.

Ron

Finally had a chance today to measure out the carpet that I bought =
from Auto
Custom Carpets (actually one of their affiliates). I chose them based =
on
positive feedback from the list. The results were disappointing. =
Carpet is
about 6 or 8 inches too wide. But worse, it doesn't seem to be correct =
for
my 58 Plymouth: there is a 2' long horizontal opening in the center =
heading
off to the right of the front piece. Anyone know what that is for ? =
The heel
pad is totally wrong and seems to be too far down to be of any good. =
Rear
piece is also too wide. Is the carpet supposed to go under the rear =
seat ?
No installation instructions provided. Grrrrrrr !

If anyone else on the list has dealt with them, have they had similar
problems ? Any suggestions ? I plan on calling the company tomorrow =
(their
tech support people only work until 2pm !). Box did say 58 Plymouth =
2dr HT
  on it.

  Ron
