Re: [FWDLK] The REST of the Story (a cautionary TAIL-fin)

Jim,

Go to the BJ web site at:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/

Click on:
Results/Auction results. Then choose year and make. In 2006 in AZ, a 57 D500
with 325 and 2x4 carbs, sold for 43,200.

VERY interesting.., since I am still seriously interested in this one.
Is there any 'proof' it really was auctioned at B&J?
Several FWDLK members have been there, but no one has seen it?

It was on eBay without the Super D-500 setup only three months ago:

Some of you may be aware of a very tasty 57 Custom (-model) Coronet 2-dr
HT, red with just a (factory-) white top, on Ebay, now. Fairly well
loaded, & 'original'/low mileage--nice car.

I was talking with its dealer-seller, Autohaus, of Los Gatos, CA, today
(408-370-2655) trying to have them send me confirmation of its
Paint/Trim data plate info), when the subject of the Gold/Black 57 CRL,
pseudo "Super D500" that's been on Ebay, for quite-a-while, now,
came-up.

Turns out that the Autohaus had "restored" the car, to "Super D500"
status (how WELL, I dunno), but, the gentleman told me that they had
turned down over $40K, @ their place ,(this year?---not clear about that
point; didn't see it @ B-J last year, OR this year, but the man was
aware of, & discussed, the 56 Golden Lancer, this year, that brought
big-bux); anyway, Autohaus had a little over 40K invested in the car,
so, they took it, & 2 other cars to B-J, and only ONE of their
(no-"reserve"-allowed) cars brought a profit.

"This" car cost Autohaus $1k to have be presented, in "Prime Time", and
was bid up to only $40,800, so, Autohaus still had to pay the 8% sellers
commission (that's what he said) , so, they lost money on the car, @
B-J.

But WAIT: after the sale, & ON the premises, the new owner sold the
car, for $55K, to the man, in FL, who has been trying to sell it NOW,
on Ebay....which explains his previous $60K reserve on it (and which has
now been reduced to a "break-even" $55k).

The Ebayer has 'talked' about auctioning the car, but, I believe that he
"knows-better" than to risk doing-so, on a no-reserve basis!
