Yes, that is my work and it did, indeed, take
twenty years to collect all the data and compile it all. Every word and
number in that book was typed by myself. .
It contains prices and weights of every model
of vehicle sold in Canada from 1930 to 1980 by North American manufacturers
that, at one time or another, assembled cars in Canada. It shows which
models were imported, along with American and Canadian serial numbers and engine
numbers.
Thus the list includes :
General Motors of Canada -
Vauxhall, Envoy, Acadian, Beamount,
Chevrolet, Pontiac, Marquette, Oakland. Oldsmobile, Viking, McLaughlin-Buick,
Buick, LaSalle, Cadillac
Ford Motor of Canada -
Frontenac, Ford, Meteor, Edsel, Mercury,
Monarch, Lincoln, Continental
Chrysler of Canada -
Valiant, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler,
Imperial
Studebaker of Canada -
Studebaker, Erskine, Rockne, Pierce-Arrow,
Clipper, Packard
American Motors (Canada) -
Nash, LaFayette, Hudson, Essex,
Terraplane, Graham, Kaiser, Frazer. Henry J, Willys,
Whippet, Willys-Knight, Rambler and AMC
and some miscellaneous makes -
Durant, Frontenac, Reo,
Hupmobile
Each car has a short history, as does each
manufacturer, and the book shows examples of serial number plates and
data tags from the 1940's through 1966-67. It also lists the
various colours and codes from 1950 through 1966 for GM, Ford, Chrysler,
Studebaker, Nash and AMC. Did not have enough info for Hudson
or Kaiser.
So, if you have, say, a 1935 Hupmobile
Six, model W517, and want to confirm itrs serial number and that it was
assembled in Canada, all the info is there. Or if you want to know the original price and weight of
your 1957 Dodge Mayfair 4-door hardtop and would like to confirm what colour
code 3127 (Upper - Icecap White; Saddle -Muscatel Maroon; Lower -
Peach Glow Coral).
Although not published in the book, I also
have info on Canadian makes prior to 1930 and also from 1981 through to
2006. Plus European, Japanese, etc. imports. from the 1930's to
2006.
