I'll jump in , here, & say that I've had everything from Dexron (note:
no "T" in the word) ATF, to 
"pure" Power Steering Fluid, until the past few years, when I've topped
it off the resevoir with "Lucas 
High Performance Power Steering Stop Leak", which, if I might quote from
the back of its container : " Lucas power Steering Stop Leak, when used
as directed, is guaranteed to eliminate all squeaks, seal leaks or rough
spots in your power steering or your money back....A blend of oils &
additives specially formulated to stop problems in power steerring
units.  Compatible with all power steering fluids."

I regard Lucas Stop Leak,  with Marvel Mystery oil, in being of  benefit
to my car.

Lucas is a VERY thick solution, that almost has to be squeezed, from the
bottle. It appears to firm-up steering response, & helps Horrie 
to drive in an unassisted straight line, at highway speeds.

BTW, if you've never drained the P/S fluid, by disconnecting the return
hose, from the pump,
you'll be amazed at how fast the system empties itself.

(I won't be able to 'defend' myself, til SUN, as I'll be in Pasadena on
FRI-SAT.)
