[FWDLK] using sealant on bolts

OK, this water jacket issue seems to have created another thread - using sealant on the bolts. My question is this: I plan to tap the holes before I reinstall a new manifold. I don't want to re-cut them, just clean them out to minimize the chances of stripping the threads due to grit, etc. Of course, that means I'll be using tapping oil. How do I clean out the oil from the threaded hole so the sealant has a clean surface to seal onto? Also, I assume orange sealer is the best application here?

I agree that It would be the threads that need the sealant { not the shank}
as any type of bolt or stud that enters any type of water jacked { oil, gas,
ect } weather it's a engine or not would need a pipe sealant made for the
application.

Actually, it's the *shank* that needs the sealant... Not the threads.

Don't worry about it, that's normal, the exhaust manifold
stud holes go clear into the water jacket on the B-engines.
Just remember to put a bit of sealant on the threads before
you screw the bolt back in to keep the anti freeze from
seeping out later.
