Re: [FWDLK] He ain't heavy?

Tim Dupont has stated that his 1956 D-500-1
had a specially beefed trannie, and, in the factory literature, there is
mentioning of quite a few, really, different application- versions of
the 3-spd trannie.

ASSUMING that the 1957 D501 3-spd was the same as used in the 1956
D-500-1 (and why NOT?) , the 1956 mythology is such that the 295 HP 315
c.i. engine could ;handle' that beefed trannie.

In 1957, (using whatever trannie was involved) , the slightly
BIGGER/TOUGHER 345 c.i. 340 HP (ha!) strengthened-300B engine destroyed
its manual trannie's synchros, and/or gears, with regularity.

But, that whole-long myth-busting discussion is not what I'm trying to
revive , here: I just would like to know the application for this
particular transmission.

I know from personal experience that the stock 57-59 manual 3 speed transmission will not hold up to a teenager with a 58 Plaza 2 door with a Golden Commando 350 engine.

There's been some discussion, on the website, about varying strngths of
the 3-speed trannies, over the years.

Does anyone know what the application of this trannie is, and if it's a
HD unit?
