What was your wages when you paid 15.00 to fill your tank and what are your
wages now? Here in the Midwest, most people don't make 20.00 and hour
either. some make 150K annually and some make 12K. all that proves is
fuel has a right to go up in price. The stats that say I used to make 1.25
per hour in 1957 and now I make 20.00 an hour in 2008, are not made up
stats.. That's reality, and if you would be honest, you would have to
say the same. Your wages have gone up significantly like fuel
. As for our economic ignorance showing, look in a mirror..... Just
because your teach college don't make you a economic wizard. Before you
start telling people on this list there ignorance is showing, look in that
same mirror again.. You do more harm by telling people there ignorant than
letting the express there opinion, . The price of fuel has a big thing to
do with this list. It powers our cars. There's nothing wrong with
discussing it unless someone thinks they are the only one that is right and
the rest are showing economic ignorance.. There's no sense talking like
that,, we are all adults, not little kids. This list is pleasant, it just
turns bad when someone says things like your economic ignorance is
showing....

The economic index and inflation are computed in several ways.
Don't you know 83.7 % of statistics are made up ? LOL
This list should be pleasant. No politics, religion or economics.
I don't know who you hang around with in your Midwest, but I teach college
in Appalachia and people, most people, don't make 60-80K here. I do, and I
was
listed in the local newspaper as the twentieth highest paid public employee
in this county. Like it was something bad. The locals are hurting really
bad.
They are being forced to put money in the tank so they can go to work and
then have no money left for anything. Some choices.
Food prices are up and there isn't enough money to eat what you want.
That's some America.
Why don't our presidential candidates know what is going on ?

U.S. consumers paid out $340 billion to import 14 million barrels a day...
just for 2007. And it's only likely to get worse. We're already paying more
$3.30 for a gallon of gas on gushing pre-summer driving season oil prices.
I just paid $42 to fill up my car, as I damned the pump. It used to cost me
$15.
Sure, U.S. oil production has been spiraling downward for the last 40 years.
But there's one area that's just starting to heat up, one that could boost
our oil reserves 10 times over. No joke.
We're talking about the opportunity to meet all U.S. oil needs for the next
two decades. That's huge.
Think about that. What if we could reduce our dependency on foreign oil? The
Middle East would lose its marbles.
The Next Oil Boom Is Upon Us.. in the Bakken Oil Formation
Locals call it "The Bakken." It's a behemoth oil reserve stretching across
North Dakota, Montana and southeastern Saskatchewan... a reserve so massive
it contains 10 times more barrels of oil than Alaska's North Slope. Keith
Kohl has been telling you about this for months in his

While the U.S. Geological Survey has reported the Bakken Formation could
hold more than 400 billion barrels of recoverable oil, a new report offering
an accurate assessment of the Bakken Formation will be released over the
next 30 days, finishing the work started by scientist Leigh Price.
Price had estimated that the Bakken Formation held as many as 900 billion
barrels of oil, but died before the work could be published or reviewed.
Some pegged it at close to 200 billion to 300 billion, with others calling
for more than 400 billion.
Until recent years, the technology simply wasn't available to economically
extract the oil from the Bakken shales, making product efforts overwhelming.
But with breakthrough techniques such as horizontal drilling, the full
potential of the Bakken play can now be developed. And it's well worth it
given high oil prices and technological advancements.
The Boom Oil Year Ahead in North Dakota
Thar's black gold in them thar hills... This time in North Dakota. And as we
mentioned above, the discovery could be significant. Unlike Northern
Canada's oil sands, the Bakken's oil can be extracted relatively cheap,
without the use of energy intensive processes.
That news alone means North Dakota could be headed for a boom oil year.
In January 2008 alone, the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division issued 90
permits to drill. At that pace, the number of permits could double those of
last year, and "be near the record 1,098 issued in 1981," according to
reports.

I have to agree with Neil, 4.00,5,6,7 even 8.00 gas is not that big of
deal,,you have to consider the inflation prices.. in 1957, 1.25 per hour
was very good wages in the Midwest. Most people didn't get that, most got
1.00 hr. gas was 29.9 per gallon. Do the math, gas has gone up maybe
12-14 times over but look at wages, most people now days are making 60-80K
here in the Midwest... we are all getting too excited over 4.00 gallon
gas,, we have just been spoiled with 1.00 gallon gas. We didn't know what
we had. Reality is, there is nothing wrong with 5.00 gallon gas,, sure, we
hate to pay it, but you cant have rain without cloudy skies
