Re: [FWDLK] Early "Disc" brakes on Crown Imperial

Dave-

Here's a pic of the disc brake setup that was taken off a 1950 Crown Imperial that was on eBay a few months ago.  If the pic doesn't come thru, I can send it to you directly

Very complicated.  These were internal expanding discs on all four wheels, made by Auto Specialties Mfg. Co. [AUSCO] under patent by Mr. Lambert, hence the name Ausco-Lambert brakes.

Standard on the 1950 Town & Country and the Crown Imperials from 1950-54, optional on other Chryslers.

This may be off topic and if it is, I apologize.

I found a book in my 'library', titled "Plymouth and Chrysler-built cars Complete Owner's Handbook of Repair and Maintenance" published by Floyd Cramer in 1955.  In the Brake section, it describes the typical expanding shoe brakes and "The Chrysler Disc brake as used on the Crown Imperial..."

Out of curiosity, does anybody have experience with these?  From the description and diagrams in the book, the design is intriguing for the era, but complicated.

Thanks,
Dave Moore
