I am wondering now if it is worth doing the hose clamps as are they good for a while { even just one time use} or will they have a tendency to leak after a while.
does anyone else use these clamps with or with out clicone ? or should I use another type of clamp.
I am not that worried about being judged with the clamps I have on now as they are the modern ones and do not leak.
thanks for all the replies about these i will either order some if they are good or will leave well enough alone.

************************************************************* To my interest in old cars, period fittings like this are essential equipment and modern clamps and other stuff is simply unacceptable. I have a box of these clamps I saved off every car I have torn down for parts. Sometimes I have had to overspring them to get a tighter fit, but leak problems have been minimal. I have had catastrophic hose failure, but no total blowouts on account of the clamps. This is coming from a guy who drove his FL cars daily from 1976 to 1996 logging huge numbers of miles. These were not weekend show cars. I have never tried silicon, and am kinda curious how people are doing this ? What does one do when they want to remove the hose for work ?
As for showing, I'll leave my car outside the gate. If someone wants to see it up close and personal, all they have to do is ask. If I were talked into actually bringing my car INTO a show, I'd leave the hood down and the doors closed unless someone asked to look. I have no use for all that hoity-toity judging and ribbon giving. I think the competitive nature of it is utterly contrary to the good will of the hobby. Do the clamps because YOU like them. Not because someone *might* throw you a bone for doing it.
