Re: [FWDLK] Clear seat covers wanted

Myself, I'd love to have a set of clear plastic seat covers with the knobby embossed pattern like Fingerhut used to make. They aren't exactly "cool" as in temperature, but they're cooler than flat plastic, and they are "cool" looking on a fifties car.

Most of the FL cars had crappy cloth upholstery, sometimes crappy and pretty, sometimes crappy and ugly like my '55 DeSoto, but always crappy. The rare exceptions I remember are the '57 Dodges, '55 Dodge Custom Royal Lancers, and some '56 DeSotos. It wasn't a matter of price either; some high end cloth didn't wear well.

Everything is a trade off: I happen to LOVE how the clear seat covers
protected my precious upholsery from a certain cut/rip, at some unknown
time, when I (apparently) sat down on the seat with something hard and
pointy sticking out of a pocket.

Nast little permanent-partial depression in the clear vinyl.

I also love how the plastic allows the occupants to SLIDE onto, across,
and out of the seats, instead of GRINDING into them.

The vinyl seat covers also tend to reinforce the upholstery, firming up
their support.

The clear vinyl also brightens up the interior, creating a reflective
appearance like a clear-coat on exterior paintwork.

I don't park in direct sunlight, so the seats rarely get sticky; when
they're newly installed, the vinyl can be tacky-sticky, but that
condition fairly quickly goes away, and the vinyl ends up feeling like
an all-vinyl OEM interior.

I'm sorry, what was the down-side, to them, again? Oh yeah; they can
get sticky in the summertime--LOLOLOL
