Re: [FWDLK] eBay Motors: Dodge : Lancer

Duffy's Reserve amount was not met, so I don't know what they were asking 'for'
the car.

I agree that Duffy's would be one of the most respected commercial dealers; I just thought that relatively very little information was provided by Duffy's, regarding the car and its history, including the not-small-matter
of disclosing/acknowledging that the car has manual brakes and steering.

The absolute value of the car resides in its mechanical and physical condition in relation and comparison to its selling price, and I don't think that we know what Duffy's (marked-up, obviously)
selling Reserve on the car may have been.

I would think that Duffy's Reserve would be around $12K- 15K (depending upon what they paid for the car, or their selling commission, if the car is being sold on consignment).

I agree. Though I have a natural bias against dealers, Duffy's seems like one of the better ones for sure, and their Ebay feedback seems to support that. (We live in Iowa and have been there a few times for fun.) And though Neil makes a good point about a car's driving condition, I've also come to learn that cosmetics--especially things like interior/dash/chrome, etc.--are much more costly to restore than mechanical items. It does look like a sharp car! Mike

I bought my '55 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe Newport from Duffy's in
1996. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend them, and
would gladly buy from them again. My car was exactly as they
described it (maybe even better) and was priced very fairly. I
purchased my car sight-unseen and when it arrived, I liked it even
better than I had hoped for. It still looks and runs great and
I'm still loving it to this day. Duffy's was honest and reliable
to deal with, and is a "class act" (if things are still as they
    were in 1996).
That Dodge looks nice and the price seems right. In a message dated 12/1/2008 4:14:34 P.M. Eastern Standard Time,

Well, the 'highly-acclaimed' Duffy's doesn't seem to have
        confirmed that
        this car has manual brakes
and manual steering, or declare any-much about this "older
        restoration's
        " mechanical condition.

        I would prefer to buy a car from a long-time private owner;
        they tend to
        be honorable and have
a personal interest in their car going to a good new-owner.

At the least, they should be able to discuss and document the
        upkeep and
        maintenance of their car,
because its primary consideration should be in its driving
        condition,
        rather than how pretty its
        paintwork might be.
