Actually, that small/tiny antenna trim-knob's , adjustment (that knob
extends  out from the passenger-side of the radio)  is supposed to be
done so as  to tune-in a distant station's reception as clearly  as
possible, but dialing-in a close-by station may have the same effect.

This adjustment is probably much more important for those of us who have
signal seeking radios.

There's an antenna trimmer (I believe that's the correct name) located next to the antenna lead hole. I turned it down until the strongest station in the area sounded good without distortion.
