Originally they were flat paint with a sand-like finish. Absolutely no
gloss is correct. Had a beautiful blue dash in a parts car once, which
ended up at Wildcat Auto near Sandy, OR. Very few if any dashes in
'55's-'56's are restored correctly. '56's offered padded dash covered with
seat vinyl. That's what I used in my '55 and it looks better than any dash
I've seen.

My 55 DeSoto is undergoing restoration. I am trying to achieve as
authentic a restoration as possible. I am unsure of the correct gloss or
texture paint that should be applied to the metal top of the dashboard.
Most of the restored ones I've seen were done in full gloss and this
doesn't look correct and also raises glare issues.
