Re: [FWDLK] CARB 'STUMBLE' off idylle???

Off-idle stumble issues are  also affected by the relationship between the primary throttle plate and the idle transfer slots, located above the mixture screws, in the carburetor base plate. With the throttle plates at idle, just the right amount of the slot needs to be uncovered for things to work right, too much or too little and there will be a flat spot when the throttle is opened. If one googles the words"off-idle stumble, transfer slots" there is a fair amount of information on the subject.

Ed,

If this ?stumble? is only for a second or 2 off idle, I would try first moving the accelerator pump link rod to a richer squirt. Most carbs have 3 settings for this rod, and since it is external and no parts are required to change the position, it is easy.

If your ?stumble? is more prolonged, than maybe Daytona Parts is right.

Today?s gas (10% alky) does make the engine run leaner. But alky is not literally 'thicker'. It just has less (about half) burnable material (Hydrogen & Carbon) than gasoline of the equivalent volume. Alky also has some Oxygen in its molecular structure. This is why oil companies use the misleading word ?Oxygenated? instead of ?gasohol?. Gasohol left a bad memory in many people?s minds when the initial use of methanol ate the fuel system rubber in many cars. Aside from forcing us to use renewable fuels, it is the government?s way, in one stroke, of leaning out the millions of carbureted cars currently on the road to reduce hydrocarbon emissions.
