Re: [FWDLK] Brake Lines

The 1957 Chrysler of Canada parts book does not list separate brake lines for manual and power setups. They are the same for both. For 1958 and 1959 they list 25' coils of tubing with notation to use as needed.

The Plymouth's wheelbase (non-wagon models) was 118" while the Dodge was 122". Thus the brake line for a Dodge from the front to rear will be about 4" longer than on a Plymouth.

Any brake shop that knows their business will be able to make up any brake line you may need, including the short ones on the front. All you need is tubing, a bending tool and a flare tool. Actually, with enough practise anyone can do it.

I bought brake lines for my '57 Dodge wagon last year. I know In Line couldn't tell me the difference between the power and manual brake applications. There shouldn't be any difference with the steel lines. I'd bet they scanned lines from one guy with power brakes and another with manual brakes so that's how they went in the computer. Another thought is that lines get moved a bit during removal/handling so they'll scan differently.

Good find, Dave !

They are listed on www.inlinetube.com under 'Mopar - Dodge C-body Full
Size'. Go figure.

They list two different part numbers for power and manual brakes. They will
be getting back to me regarding why there are two different numbers. I can't
figure out what the difference would be. They also list the front wheel cyl
connecting lines.

Ron,

Inline Tube already lists your application on their web site.

Hey Everyone -

Is the front-to-back brake line the same for 57-9 Dodge ? Also is it the
same as 57-9 Plymouth ? I don't have a sample for my 59 Dodge, so I'm in
need of this information before I start pulling lines off the above cars
that may turn out to be incorrect for my car.

Another thought: Is there anyone that has a good sample of this line that
is
willing to send it in to one of the commercial places (Inline Tube, Fine
Lines, etc.) to have the line made up and then scanned into their computer
for future use ?

Ron
