Re: [FWDLK] Trunk Lid Weatherstrip

I used Andy Bernbaum's weatherstrip on my entire '57 Savoy back in '95 and it worked well. The trunk closes a hell of a lot easier than my Fury's (which was done by the previous owner and I don't know where he got the w/s). I don't know if Andy sells the same product now but back then I'd recommend his stuff.

the purists will cringe at this idea, but it works...  having many cars outside of the fwdlk scope opens the windows to alternatives... companies like soffseal and the independant mfg's for JCwhitney make weatherstripping the way it should be/feel/work.... for the trunk of 57/8 plymouths, the profile and size of weatherstripping for 68-72 GM a-body works perfect... the general appearance is a little different as ours is supposed to be a rounded profile at the contact surface while the chevelle/gto style offers a tapered lip, but- with the weatherseal uninstalled- the channels are visually and dimensionally the same channel- thus the rubber fits right in with no probs... used teh GM profile about 6 times so far- no water, air noises, or exhaust fumes in the trunk.... you have to pick it by side profile in the JCW chart- if anyone wants to use it for a good weatherseal, i'll do the legwork of going into the next room, getting the catalog, and providing the part#

Subject: [FWDLK] Trunk Lid Weatherstrip

Hey Everyone -

Without the weatherstrip, the trunk lid on my 58 Plymouth aligns well with the body. When I add the weatherstrip to the channel, the lid sticks up noticeably. The problem is that the weatherstrip is too dense and doesn't compress enough to give me proper alignment. I purchased this from Gary Goers about five years ago when we first started reassembling the car. It has been on the car since then so it has had plenty of time to settle in with the lid closed.

Is there another source for this weatherstrip besides GG ? Are the folks in Sweden repopping this as well ? I know of at least one other 57-8 Plymouth owner that has similar problems with this weatherstrip. Has anyone come up with a way to overcome this issue ?
