John: I took the tank for my 56 to Tank Renu and had them coat it inside and outside with their protective coating after they had cleaned and repaired it. I then painted the outside with aluminum colored paint and put it back on the car. It has worked perfectly ever since for about seven years. It ain't cheap, but it works.
