Re: [FWDLK] WONDERING ABOUT SOME UPGRADES

Bill, et al : the standard Dodge/PLY TorqueFlite can be rebuilt to 300/D500/Fury specs by
any of several facilities around the country.

The torque converter can also be rebuilt, as necessary.

If you want to get 'trick' with the trannie, go score a complete liquid cooled assembly, complete with its radiator-having-inner-trans-cooler-and-plumbing-fixtures on it, and go get THAT trannie
rebuilt.

The liquid cooled unit will live longer than the air cooled guy, which was installed on all The DOD/PLY's.

THEN: you score an air-cooled (has the little external cooling fins on it) POWERFLITE T/Q (for overhaul, if it's been sitting around for a long time) because the P/F will have higher rpm upshift characteristics than the T/F.

As far as the brake system is concerned (and, I just happened to contact them, today, regarding their O/H of a leaking wheel cylinder on my own car)...KARP'S POWER BRAKE (909-985-0800) can bullet-proof O/H
the OEM single-pot master cylinder AND the OEM wheel cylinders.

Not-surprisingly, Karp's had nothing nice to say about the quality of the over-the-counter M/C's and wheel
cylinders that are available today.

I, years ago and rather foolishly, found, had-be-overhauled, and installed, a dual-pot M/C before discovering that Karp's offered their nuke-pruf M/C and wheel cylinder overhauling services.

Then, while awaiting the receipt of the O/H'ed brake components, you send the OEM brake shoes to Firm Feel (firmfeel.com) so that they can remove the funky linings and bond-on new carbon-metallic linings to 'your' shoes.

Another 'trick' item is to go find some big-dog CHY/IMP 12 x 2 1/2" brakes and have their drums be turned and
their shoes be re-lined by Firm Feel.

Then, we can talk about smiling upon the car's engine, and rear end gear set/ratio.
