Reading with interest the issue of a small spark when the second battery terminal is connected.  Several causes have been mentioned, all can cause the spark.  One that has not been mentioned is inter-wire capacitance (wire to wire, wire to chassis, etc.).  Which one it is can be tested.  Simply remove the battery wire and touch the battery a second time.  If spark, light, clock, etc.  If no spark, the problem is ignorable because it is inter-wire capacitance and the capacitor has been charged.  Big spark is a whole different issue.  Hope this helps.
