Re: [FWDLK] 1958 Plymouth 2 door hardtop numbers

I know my 57 Plymouth Sedan with a big block 400 and an aluminum Torqueflite with the trunk empty and aluminum wheels weighed in at 4166 with me in it (about 165ish pounds at the time) on the scale at Raceway Park in Englishtown and my '58 Fury with the 426 Hemi/ 4 speed and Dana rear weighed in at 3920 with the trunk empty, no exhaust on it and no heater system (box, core ect. removed), so I'd say they weigh roughly 3800 pounds figuring that a Poly 318 weighs more than a 400, a cast iron automatic weighs more than an aluminum torqueflite, and the cars are shipped with a jack and spare tire in them.

I'd highly doubt the advertised "shipping weight' of any car.

The 56 Dodge Coronet 2-dr sedan had an "advertised shipping weight" of about
3500 lbs, and some people who support the incredibly fast times
as 'recorded' for its D500-1 race car's mighty 295 (gross-) HP (which are
equivalent to late 60's times, for the 440/426 cars) attribute its
(non-NHRA)1/4 mile
times to its 4.89 geaset, a 1-time shift into third gear, and its light
("shipping"-)
weight.

Anyway, I coincidentally happen to have seen a road test of a 1957
Coronet D500, which the testers took to a weigh station, and they recorded
a true weight of 3,920 lbs on it, with a full tank of gas.

If a gallon of gas weighs a tad over 6 lbs, the car's non-gas weight would
be right at 3,800 lbs.

The PLY, with a shorter frame, would probably come in at around 3,700 lbs
without gas.
