Allen:
I believe that '55 used the same O/D tranny as the early-'50s models. For 1956 the electrics went to 12V. All this assumes the 6-cylinder engine. The V8 engines may have used the same O/D tranny as the 6-cylinder did for '55 and '56.
I had a '57 or '58 vintage O/D tranny which had a different input shaft config and had a tail-support. The pre-'57 units did not use a tail support.
