[FWDLK] HELP ON A MEASUREMENT PLEASE

On the 318 POLY engine,,vintage 1957,1958,1959--------------

Can someone tell me the amount that the dip stick tube sticks out of the 
block if it were laid flat.

I come up with 8 1/4" but that seems a bit short?????
