Re: [FWDLK] Fuel pump installed...coolant leak...the next question

Hi Garrett, I believe it's the same water pump as the "RB" big block Mopar engines.

Sure looks the same. I'm sure someone will chime in.

Alright,

As I feared, removal of more components may soon be needed.  At this point I really only want to get the thing running long enough to pull into the driveway, so repair/replacement is not an immediate need.

For future reference, however, the next million dollar question is:

Who or where rebuilds these pumps or offers rebuild kits (car is a 57 Dodge with 325 Poly)?  If I recall, Then and Now also mentions that they rebuild water pumps.  Does anyone have any experience with them for water pump rebuilds or is there another preferred shop for such service?  I would be interested in rebuilt kits as well, however unless the price is ridiculous, I'd probably just have someone rebuild it.

Thanks again.

Subject: [FWDLK] Fuel pump installed...coolant leak

Hey all,

I just installed my freshly rebuilt fuel pump today (thanks to Then and Now Automotive, it looks great).  I'm pretty sure it wasn't installed correctly, but have already done some searching on the forums and think I have that issue solved.

The next issue to arise is that, while cranking the engine after the fuel pump install, coolant started leaking I believe from somewhere on the bottom side of the water pump.

Is it possible the seals dried out while the car was sitting (the coolant level always seemed stable, but it was a little low today.  I never saw a puddle under the car)?  Is this a "definitely needs replaced" scenario or based on the experience of others is it possible the the gaskets may reseal after being exposed to the coolant?  I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but am always hopeful.

Thanks,
Garrett
