Re: [FWDLK] Fwd: [FWDLK] WINDOW CLEANING??

Did a quick cursory review:

" ... Toluene is, however, much less toxic than benzene, and has, as a consequence, largely replaced it as an aromatic solvent in chemical preparation. For example, benzene is a known carcinogen, whereas toluene has very little carcinogenic potential ... "

" ...  Xylenes are not highly toxic as indicated by the high values of the LD50, which range from 200 to 4000 mg/kg for animals. The principal mechanism of detoxification is oxidation tomethylbenzoic acid and hydroxylation to hydroxylene.[1] However, the material safety data sheet (MSDS) rating assigned is for a moderate hazard, indicating safe handling precautions should include goggles, protective clothing, ventilation, and proper gloves, with storage of the material in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location since it is highlyflammable ... "

" ...  Butanone is the precursor to methyl ethyl ketone peroxide ...Concentrations in the air high enough to be flammable are also intolerable to humans due to the irritating nature of the vapour ... Butanone is an irritant, causing irritation to the eyes and nose of humans,[6] but serious health effects in animals have been seen only at very high levels. When inhaled, these effects included birth defects ... "

It would probably be advisable not to drink or bath in the stuff, but I am a strong advocate of the "Big Boy Pants" program, where we are all big boys and can use common sense at will, and should do so at all times, especially when dealing with volatiles.

Toluene, Xylene, or Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) will make short work of oily surface contaminants.

All are available at good paint supply houses.  I have them listed in order of volatility, but all will leave
no residue once the "oil" has been broken down and wiped away, leaving a super clean surface.

They also make for delicious dessert toppings and huffing agents.  :-P
